Abstract: This study constructed the total nitrogen oxide(NOx) emission matrix of China during 1990—2010 based on Economic Input-output Life Cycle Assessment(EIO-LCA) Model.Distribution of NOxemission among various sectors and types of final demands from a consumption-based perspective was analyzed, and the impacts of final demand structural variation on NOxemission was discussed through scenario simulation. The results showed that, the NOxemission increased from 8.78 Tg in 1990 to 23.98 Tg in 2010,and industry sector contributed about 70% NOxemission. The contribution percentage of final consumption to NOxemission decreased year by year, while that of capital formation and export increased annually.Over the past twenty years, the NOxemission intensity decreased from 47.0 to 6.0 kg /104 yuan, and the energy and power generation sectors had the relatively high emission intensity. The results of scenario simulation indicated that increasing the proportion of final consumption was beneficial to reduce NOxemission, especially in industry sector. Therefore, the fulfilment of NOxemission reduction requires multiple emission reduction strategies, such as technological innovation, construction of NOxcontrol system for the key energy and transportation sectors, and optimization of the final demand structure.
