Abstract: Experiment of new sugarcane varieties under different density in arid hill-side fields was undertaken to explore the expression of agronomic characters and process quality for Liucheng05-136(LC05-136),Funong39(FN39),Yuetang60(YT60),and to provide a reasonable density basis for local sugarcane planting.LC05-136,FN39 and YT60 were tested by using split-plot design under 4 different planting densities:90000,120000,150000 and 180000 buds/ha.Germination rate showed the trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increasing of planting density;Effective stems and cane yield represented an upward trend with the increase of planting density, white tiller rate, stem rate and stalk diameter exhibited a downward trend.Stem rate and stalk diameter were highest under the planting density of 90000 buds/ha,germination rate and growth rate were both highest under 120000 buds/ha and the highest of cane yield was achieved under 180000 buds/ha.LC05-136 got the highest growth rate and sucrose content,YT60 got the highest yield, and FN39 got the highest sugar. The optimum planting density of LC05-136 was under 180000 buds/ha,and both of YT60 and FN39 were under120000 buds/ha.
