Abstract: According to the shape characteristics of shafts,a multi-position process of combination of cold shrink extrusion and semiclosed upsetting was proposed,relatively,the process optimization method and six principles of die design were put forward. A five-position-cold forging process and relative dies were designed for a car driving shaft. After the hardness ≤140 150 HBS of rod blanks through ball annealing,cleaning up oxide coating and phosphating treatment,the multi-position process experiments were carried out by using both single-station die on Y28- 400 /400 double action hydraulic press and multi-station die on YK34J- 1600 five-station hydraulic press. The results show that the forgings obtained by the process have fine dimensional accuracy and quality,the material utilization reaches 90% ~95%,and the surface roughness reaches Ra0. 4- 0. 8 μm. The designed die has long service life and is reasonable for manufacturing,fixing and repairing.
