Abstract: The present study was conducted to determine the effects of Astragalus polysaccharides on growth performance and immunity of broilers. Three hundred 1-d-old Avian broilers were randomly allotted to five dietary treatments with six replicate cages per treatment and ten chickens per cage. Five diets were prepared for the study. Control diet was the basal diet without Astragalus polysaccharides. The other four diets were formulated by the addition of 0.1%、0.5%、1% and 2% of Astragalus polysaccharides to the basal diet, respectively. The feeding trial lasted for 42 days. The results showed that Astragalus polysaccharides improved the average daily gain and average daily feed intake, depressed the ratio of feed to gain, and had a better growth-promoting action, especially, the dose of 1% had the best effect. The dietary Astragalus polysaccharides increased the Newcastle disease antibody titer in serum and the peripheral blood T lymphocyte clusters of differentiation(CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+), and raised serum immunoglobulin A, M, and G in broilers, and the dose of 0.5%~1% Astragalus polysaccharides performed better effects. However, the addition of 2% Astragalus polysaccharides to diet was less effective. In conclusion, the broiler chickens fed a diet containing 1% Astragalus polysaccharides had higher growth performance and immune functions compared with birds given a control diet.
