Abstract: The effective prevention and treatment of diabetes complications to improve the quality of life in diabetic patients,and increase the survival rate has important significance.Apelin is a widely expressed in the central nervous system and peripheral tissue fat factor.Apelin receptor is a member of the family of G protein coupling receptor.A new study has found that fat factor apelin plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of diabetes complications.On the one hand,apelin can increase the absorption of glucose in the heart,repair dysfunction caused by high sugar in the cardiac systolic function and can reduce the cardiovascular risk of atherosclerosis,reduce kidney swelling and inflammation,protect diabetic neuropathy and islet cells endoplasmic reticulum stress.On the other hand,in diabetic retinopathy,apelin promotes the formation of abnormal retinal blood vessels to accelerate the occurrence of diabetic retinopathy.The progress found in recent years was reviewed in this paper including the mechanism of the role of apelin family in diabetes complications,apelin system is discussed as a tremendous potential targets for the prevention and treatment of diabetes complications.
